This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures.

It covers

  1. planning emergency response systems and procedures;
  2. implementing emergency response systems and procedures;
  3. communicating emergency response information; and
  4. maintaining emergency response systems

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:      

  1. develop and implement emergency procedures for your organisation (including, where necessary, both on-site and off-site) following industry best practice
  2. involve relevant stakeholders in formulation and implementation of emergency procedures following industry best practice
  3. confirm links are in place with external services for emergency medical care and rescue work following industry best practice
  4. make suitable first-aid and firefighting provision for your organisation following standard operating procedures
  5. check there are necessary competencies in first aid and fire fighting in your organisation following industry best practice
  6. identify potential areas and sources of an emergency in your organisation – on site and off-site following industry best practice
  7. prepare to respond to requests of regulatory and local authorities, emergency services, other authorities, media and other interested parties regarding an emergency in your organisation following standard operating procedures
  8. keep adequate records of health and safety emergency response procedures of your organisation following standard operating procedures
  9. develop and implement procedures for your organisation for both on-site and off-site emergencies following industry best practice
  10. check sufficient facilities, material and equipment, including communication equipment, are available to deal with control of emergencies in your organisation following industry best practice
  11. detail competencies required for dealing with control of emergencies following standard operating procedures
  12. establish effective liaison with appropriate emergency services and regulatory and local authorities following industry best practice
  13. respond to requests of regulatory and local authorities, media and other interested parties following standard operating procedures
  14. check investigation procedures have been carried out following industry best practice
  15. keep adequate records of procedures for control of health and safety emergencies in your organisation
  16. monitor and update emergency plans following industry best practice
  17. test suitability of emergency plans following industry best practice
  18. review systems in place to monitor any changes in the organisation or key external partners following industry best practice
