PROFI11 Maintain windows and doors, or conservatories, or curtain walling
Overview
This standard is concerned with maintaining windows and doors, or conservatories, or curtain walling. The candidate needs to be able to dismantle the windows and doors, or conservatories, or curtain walling in order to undertake the maintenance. The maintenance then has to be undertaken, utilising the correct materials. Finally, the system is reinstated and restored to operation.
This standard is for you if you work in the Fenestration and Glazing Industry and are involved in maintenance and repair work.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1 comply with health and safety requirements and procedures at all times
2 handle or move dangerous materials discovered during the work only if authorized in line with organisational and regulatory requirements
3 use structural supports to support the installation in line with organisational requirements and specifications
4 remove any fixtures and fittings that prevent or restrict maintenance, and store and label them for re-installation in line with organisational requirements
5 remove materials from the installation causing minimum damage to the surrounding structure and in line with organisational and regulatory requirements
6 remove debris from the site area and dispose of it in accordance with regulations and guidelines
7 use materials that are suitable for their purpose
8 ensure the installation materials meet customer requirements 9 undertake maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedures
10 minimise the period during which the installation cannot be used
11 inform customers of further actions that are required when repairs are only temporary
12 identify any problems relating to dismantling and maintenance and deal with them according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
13 remove any structural supports that were supporting the installation according to SOPs
14 apply finishing materials and ensure they are level and comparable with existing surfaces in line with organisational requirements and specifications
15 replace any fixtures and fittings removed during the maintenance 16 ensure glazing components function according to SOPs
17 remove all loose materials and debris from the site in line with organisational and regulatory requirements
18 record information on the maintenance in your organisation’s systems using SOPs
19 undertake work only within the limits of your responsibilities
