PROFI7 Prepare apertures for fenestration installation

Overview

This standard involves preparing apertures during the refurbishment of a property: if it is a new building, this unit would not be appropriate. These systems primarily relate to replacement windows and doors, conservatories or curtain walling systems. The candidate has to remove the existing windows and doors from the apertures before the apertures are restructured or new openings created. The restructured or new apertures have to be checked against specifications, and all debris removed. Finally, new surface finishes have to be provided ready for the installation.

This standard is for you if you work in the Fenestration and Glazing Industry and are involved in on-site installation work.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1             comply with health and safety regulations and procedures

2             handle or move dangerous components and materials discovered during the work only if authorized and in line with regulatory and organisational requirements

3             use structural supports to support the aperture in line with specifications and organisation requirements

4             remove any fixtures and fittings that prevent or restrict the installation, and store and label them for re-installation in line with organisational procedures

5             remove components and materials from the aperture causing minimum damage to the surrounding structure

6             remove outer frames with minimum damage to the surrounding structure

7             remove debris from the site area and dispose of it in line with regulations and guidelines

8             use structural supports to support the aperture in line with specifications and instructions

9             check that apertures are restructured or created at the correct location as specified in the relevant documentation

10           remove redundant construction materials from the aperture in line with regulations and organisational procedures

11           verify that damp proof course (DPC) is not damaged or is added if required

12           minimise damage to the surrounding structure and decor as much as possible

13           assemble materials in line with specifications

14           cut materials accurately to the size and shape required in the specifications

15           verify that materials will fit plumb and square to the prepared aperture

16           seal joints with materials in line with specifications and instructions

17           verify that surface finishes fit in with the existing structure and meet specification requirements

18           identify any problems relating to the installation work and deal with them in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and organisational procedures

19           record information on installation work using systems in line with organisation and regulatory requirements
