Overview

This standard is about creating masters for a variety of deliverables with a mixed sound track and edited video. The final sound should be in synch and have all its required elements for each deliverable.

This standard should apply to anyone who is involved with delivering finished sound to image.

 

Performance Criteria 

You must be able to:

  1. obtain information about overall technical and format requirements from reliable sources
  2. identify standards and format requirements for each deliverable specified
  3. identify audio masters appropriate for projects
  4. check that all required prior workflow has been completed in line with workflow plans
  5. optimise sound quality and mix in audio masters
  6. make sure mixes remain true to original visions and reflect editing decisions taken
  7. check masters have appropriate tracks to agreed specification
  8. check that final sound is synchronised with image to expected technical standards
  9. meet specified requirements for different users and different deliverables
  10. assess audio quality against expected artistic and technical standards
  11. log and hand over work in specified formats to specified people
  12. maintain security for files and other materials in line with legal and organisational requirements

 

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:  

  1. how to assess audio quality to expected artistic and technical standards
  2. sound requirements of different types of project
  3. how to select suitable equipment and operate it
  4. different types of workflow and their impact on the process of creating masters
  5. statutory regulation and viewing standards that apply to content delivery
  6. national and international best practice for content delivery across different platforms
  7. the importance of audibility of dialogue especially with regards to the impaired hearing of an ageing population
  8. components of the audio mix
  9. principles of standard and non-standard deliverables, file formats, digital interconnectivity and elements of audio and video signals
  10. how to measure critical elements of audio and video signals
  11. legal and organisational requirements for logging, storage, back up and security of files and other materials
