Overview

This standard is about identifying the number and nature of supporting cast and contributors needed for the production.

It is about interviewing and contacting potential supporting artistes and contributors including conducting auditions and arranging for their appearance on the production within time and cost limits. 

It is about complying with legal, ethical and contractual responsibilities to contributors and adhering to standards of good practice.

This standard is for those working in the production management team.

 

Performance Criteria 

You must be able to:

  1. agree the number of supporting cast or contributors needed for productions
  2. identify supporting cast and contributors from industry sources and check their availability against the shooting scripts and schedule
  3. contact potential supporting cast or contributors to arrange interviews or auditions to meet production requirements
  4. conduct interviews or auditions in line with organisational procedures and production requirements
  5. select the supporting cast and contributors who meet the requirements of the production
  6. verify contributors in line with production requirements
  7. confirm fees with supporting cast or contributors and arrange for contracts to be issued as required
  8. check with supporting cast and contributors if they have any access requirements in line with organisational procedures
  9. confirm requirements for specialist support such as chaperones, intimacy coordinator or access coordinators
  10. record details of supporting cast and contributors as required by your organisation
  11. obtain release forms and record authorisation to use material on multiple platforms in line with organisational requirements
  12. propose alternatives when chosen supporting cast or contributors are unavailable, keeping producers informed at all times

  2. sources of information about supporting cast or contributors, and how to access them
  3. the commercial and aesthetic criteria to use in selecting supporting cast and contributors
  4. when and how to contact supporting cast, contributors or their representatives
  5. contractual arrangements and procedures, legal and ethical requirements and obligations relating to the engagement of supporting cast and contributors
  6. the role of casting directors and how to appoint them
  7. requirements and regulations which affect the eligibility of supporting cast for employment in different countries
  8. different access requirements and how to support these
  9. how to licence child contributors and any chaperone arrangements that are required
  10. the implications of current legislation and regulations covering data protection
