Overview

 

This standard is about co-ordinating the show to ensure that the necessary actions occur at the right time in the agreed manner. You will be responsible for cues, calls and prompts during the performance

This standard is for Deputy Stage Managers or Show Callers.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. confirm your responsibilities for providing calls, cues and prompts
  2. inform relevant people without delay of any problems with maintaining performance as directed
  3. provide cues and stand-by using agreed methods, at the agreed time
  4. identify deviations from performance plot and timescale, making adjustments to timing of cues when required
  5. inform people of changes to cue timings and backstage calls without delay
  6. provide prompts for performers at the agreed volume when required
  7. monitor cues to check they are provided at the agreed time and in the correct sequence during performance
  8. give company calls for the next performance in accordance with instructions, organisational and contractual requirements
  9. provide information regarding cues and calls for the show report

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You must know and understand:

  1. how to provide cues, backstage calls and prompts
  2. how to group cues for long and/or complex sequences
  3. the importance of the show report for reporting changes to the timing of cues or the methods to be used
  4. how to identify cueing points from prompt scripts, musical scores and observation of the performance
  5. the methods by which cues can be provided
  6. the relevant stand by times for the people involved with the performance
  7. how to identify and respond to problems or events that affect agreed timing of, or methods used for cues
  8. alternative ways of providing cues and how to use these when problems arise
  9. the circumstances that might result in aborted 'gos' and the action to take in response to these
