Overview

This standard is about making arrangements for your own organisations touring productions.

You will need to agree arrangements for get in, fit up, installation, rehearsals, operation, communication and support systems and get out. You will also need to plan and schedule activities, people and resources and produce contingency plans.

This standard is for anyone who makes arrangements to tour productions.

 

Performance Criteria

You must be able to:

  1. obtain information about venues’ technical specifications and facilities
  2. create and supply the venue with your production packs or technical rider
  3. communicate with the resident stage or technical manager at venues according to plans and schedules
  4. negotiate and agree arrangements and timescales for transport, get in, fit-up, installation, rehearsals, operation and get out which meet venue and production requirements
  5. plan communication and support systems which will give support to touring productions
  6. liaise with venue technical staff to agree and schedule venue induction for your company
  7. estimate and cost human and physical resources required for touring in line with industry guidance and production requirements
  8. produce and agree plans and schedules for all stages of the production to meet production requirements
  9. develop contingency plans which address identified problems and risks associated with touring productions
  10. check and confirm that documentation and records required by the venue are completed in line with plans and schedules

 

Knowledge and Understanding

You must know and understand:

  1. the benefits of a technical recce in advance if required
  2. how to interpret a venue’s technical specification and how to make adjustments to your production accordingly
  3. how to create and what to include in production packs or a technical rider
  4. how to facilitate negotiations and who to include in these when agreeing arrangements and timescales for transport, get in, fit-up, installation, rehearsals, operation and get out which meet venue and production requirements
  5. the importance of the venue induction session
  6. how to balance the needs of the production requirements and the venue
  7. how venue policies and procedures can impact on your production
  8. when to inform venues of specialist elements of a production for example firearms, smoke, flashing lights
  9. roles and responsibilities of production and venue staff
  10. how to produce and agree plans and schedules for all stages of the production to meet production requirements
  11. risks and associated contingency plans and how to implement these when required
  12. the production and venue requirements for record keeping
  13. the importance of seeking feedback from venue and production staff on plans and progress
