Overview

This standard is about balancing water treatment production with network demand. This is for water treatment production and does not apply to waste water and sludge treatments.

It includes regularly monitoring system performance, investigating system performance when outputs are not at anticipated levels, resolving issues with system performance and keeping records.

The Standard is suitable for supervisors at water treatment processing plants.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. obtain information about network demand from appropriate sources
  2. monitor production output levels against network demand at appropriate intervals
  3. adjust production settings and controls when required, to meet required output levels
  4. organise investigations of production performance when outputs are not at anticipated levels
  5. analyse the results of investigations to identify solutions to problems with production performance
  6. put in place measures to rectify problems with production performance
  7. report problems and seek assistance from designated people for issues with production performance or network demand levels which you cannot resolve or which are outside your area of responsibility
  8. follow safe working and hygiene practices in accordance with relevant procedures and regulatory and statutory requirements
  9. maintain and store records of network demand, production performance and investigations, in your organisational systems
  10. follow security procedures in line with organisational protocols and policies

Knowledge and understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. water industry legislation, standards, codes of practice, industry regulations, organisational processes and safe working practices for health, safety, and hygiene in relation to your job role
  2. water industry legislation, standards, codes of practice, industry regulations, organisational processes and safe working practices for environmental protection in relation to your job role including waste disposal and measures to reduce harmful emissions and substances
  3. where to obtain and how to interpret information about network system demand
  4. frequency for checking levels of production output against network system demand
  5. methods of measuring production output performance
  6. production performance investigation methods, the equipment required and how to carry them out
  7. The distinguishing features and basic operating principles of treated water storage facilities including storage points, pumping
  8. how to interpret and analyse the results of system performance investigations
  9. organisational reporting lines and authorisation procedures and limits of responsibility and authority
  10. the range of measures that can be taken to resolve issues with system performance that are within your levels of authority
  11. organisational requirements for storing and retrieving information including maintenance records and emergency responses and the importance of following confidentiality and cyber security protocols
  12. protocols and policies for confidentiality and site security and why they are important
